Recent rapid growth of the e-transaction via the Internet is truly remarkable. It is now a vital part of our social infrastructure. The fingerprint recognition technology is also emerging in the cyber space. Even the physical access control is quickly being changed from the real space to the virtual space. Now, your cell phone can open doors, pay the parking charge, and perform financial transactions. We forsee the trend, and continue introducing new technological concepts to the biometric market.

As the logical access becomes more convenient, you must protect your identification form sophisticated ID thefts who use all kinds of tools to steal your ID.  The cyber security concerns anyone in protecting privacy.  Password is not enough to maintain the cyber security nor a cost-effective operation. The annual overhead of password administration is over $200/user in a large-scale network system. Why spending such cost each year even you have a better solution?

We responded to our customers' requests, and developed a client-server based fingerprint recognition system.  It administers fingerprint matching routines, and securely transmits digital information through the Internet. With our patent pending technology, your ID will be protected, and the data transmission via the Internet will be secured more.

Figure below illustrates several transactions through the Internet.

Web-based Fingerprint Authentication Service for E-Commerce

■ Technoimagia has developed four web-based fingerprint authentication systems: FP-CHAP, FP-Auth, FP-ThinClient, and FP-SecureStation.

FP-CHAP (Challenge Handshale Authentication Protocol) performs fingerprint authentications for your web servers anywhere in the world, offering a application service provider (ASP) service through the Internet.  An ASP service is now up and running by Media Place Co., Ltd. as FP-OTP (One Time Password).

First you need to enroll his/her fingerprint template to a fingerprint authentication server. You have a choice of fingerprint image scanners: FP-Plus or FP-Stick. The procedure is simple and takes only a few minutes. Once a template is enrolled, the log-on procedure is at your finger command.

■ FP-CHAP adopted a challenge-response authentication mechanism (CRAM) for better security. FP-CHAP uses fingerprint templates instead of conventional passwords for the CRAM scheme. When a client PC attempts to gain access to an web-based application or a web server, the web server requests an accompanied fingerprint authentication server to perform the challenge-response sequence with the client PC. Technoimagia is pending a U.S. Patent for this method.

■ Our challenge-response sequence is sophisticated but, to a user, it appears to be not much different from a conventional password based scheme.  Instead of entering a password, you will put your finger on a fingerprint image scanner. After a successful authentication, your PC is authorized to gain access to the web server.

FP-Auth performs fingerprint authentication for Solaris server systems.  FP-Auth can offer ASP service as well.

・ Low cost to deploy for a large-scale server system
・ UNIX, LINUX, or IIS server (Internet or LAN)
・ Ideal for financial transaction, e-commerce, contents & service
             providers

FP-ThinClient has a fingerprint
an authentication server in a thin
  client server.
・ Ideal for data security including:

      Membership management
      Medical record management
PC terminals at a Call Center
      Law enforcement

FP-SecureSation is Technoimagia's first web-based authentication system. It was developed for LINUX systems. The emphasis of the concept was the logical security contrast to the physical security which we implemented as FP-SecureGate.
